Mission to Space Party

Is it already April?! Wow! I’ve been meaning to post about my kid’s 5th birthday party since February. We had such a fab time putting it together and the party was a great success! The activities were so much fun that we’ve been re-living them nearly every weekend since the party! I’ve included templates for making your own similar party.  But seriously, you don’t have to wait for a special event to do it. You can make it an awesome weekend activity.

Mission to Space Party

My kid, who was an astronaut for Halloween, requested an Astronaut Training party. We used Paperless Post for the invitations and invited party goers to “report to duty” at a state park that offers an indoor / outdoor venue. A week after the invitations went out my kid asked if it could be an astronauts AND aliens party. Um, hello curve ball!

When guests arrived they were given a badge and training credentials to hang around their necks and a training manual.

Mission to Space Party

The manual included four levels of training that each commander needed to complete in order to earn junior astronaut certification.

Level 1: Rocket Ship Construction

We used recycled toilet paper rolls and construction paper to make rocket ships.

When each kid’s ship was compete he/she earned a sticker.

Level 2: Robotic Arm Operation

The kids used this awesome toy Toysmith Robot Claw to grab bouncy balls out of a big bucket. We ordered a giant assortment of bouncy balls from Oriental Trading Company – 50 balls were only $12!

Level 3: Zero Gravity Toss

Each kid was spun around 3 times and then they had to throw a bean bag and knock down these stacked cottage cheese containers. Such a simple concept and BY FAR the most popular station at the party.

Level 4: Alien Egg Hunt

We ordered 150 plastic eggs and stuffed nearly 150 little alien guys inside. We hid all the eggs outside and when levels 1 through 3 were completed, all the kids got to go outside for an alien egg hunt!

Space Themed Food

We offered all kinds of space themed food including a Hydration Station for juice, Little Dippers (veggies and dip) and moon rocks (red and green grapes).

We even got the local deli to make Rings of Saturn shaped sandwiches for the party.

Of course the cake was a rocketship – my first attempt ever at decorating a cake.

Along with handmade marshmallow alien pops.

Definitely a big hit with the kids.
