Breakfast Week: Omega 3 Triple Berry Oatmeal
Of all the meals in a day (including snacks) what’s your favorite? Ours is breakfast, or brunch, really. (But only if we’re making breakfasty things at brunch.) I’ve clearly passed the obsession on to my kid, and I often wonder if it’s nature or nurture. Is his love of all things brunch in his DNA or have I simply indoctrinated him?
I’ll never know but it looks like the baby is falling right in line. She conspired with her brother sneaking little bits of berry while he distracted me with his fashionable oatmeal hat.
I was forced to punish them with a big bowl of omega 3 triple berry oatmeal complete with a spoonful of flax seeds.
So good even the spatula is smiling. Oh, and in honor of breakfast week, we’ve decided to give away a copy of Breakfast At Tiffany’s!

Omega 3 Triple Berry Oatmeal Recipe
Prep Time: 5 mins Cooking Time: 10 mins
2 cups fresh or frozen thawed berries (blueberries, strawberries & raspberries)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
juice of 1/2 lemon
pat of butter
1 cup old fashioned oats
3/4 cup lowfat or non-fat milk
pinch of salt
1 cup water
1 teaspoon flax seeds
In a small bowl mix together berries, lemon juice and sugar. Set aside. Boil water, milk and salt. Stir in oats. Cook about 5 minutes over medium heat stirring occasionally. Turn heat off. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute fruit (including any liquid) over medium heat until soft. Add cooked oatmeal to skillet, sprinkle with flax seeds and stir to combine until it’s warmed through. Makes 2 servings.
